FEMINISM
'What does it mean?' 'What's it about?' 'Oh here we go girls are the best and boys are the worst'
NO SHUSH. Let me explain.
For one of my projects in university, we had to pick a trend to do a trend package on, basically a whole project on, and thinking outside the box, i chose Feminism. I've always considered myself a Feminist, i've been surrounded by strong women all my life and i look up to incredible women in the media, but when i started this project, i didn't realise the actual issues surrounding this word.
Initally i just googled feminism thinking a wikipedia page would come up, but i was wrong, well a wikipedia page did come up but it was just news article after news article. Even in this day and age us women are not treated and represented in the way we should be. I'm not saying were treated the way women were treated in the days of the Suffragettes, but we Women and Men are not treated equality. I then found Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. You know Beyonce's song, 'Flawless' and the bit when that woman talks? That's Chimamanda!! Its from her TED TALK, which honestly was 30 minutes well spent, i even bought the book version. She has made me believe, i wasn't born to get married and just stay at home. I was born to be the best version of myself i can be. She has taught me i can aspire to anything i want. One of my big self issues is Self confidence,but this project is really helping me overcome it, and start believing how good of a person i am. I then found Emma Watson's #HEFORSHE campaign, which sparked a lightbulb in my head. Why not do my own campaign with all my family & friends?! Introducing: #TKONFEMINISM
It's already kickstarted, with most of my family and friends sending my photos and getting involved but i'm on a mission to get AS many people i know to do it. I'm so excited.
